On May 7, Kodak’s latest portable projector, the Luma 500, was officially launched by licensed manufacturer C+A Global. Designed with mobility in mind, this compact device features a built-in 10,500mAh battery and is marketed as suitable for outdoor use. However, with a rated brightness of just 150 ANSI lumens, its real-world performance in brighter environments may be limited.

The projector supports screen sizes up to 150 inches from a projection distance of approximately 3.8 meters (about 12.5 feet), offering a 1.2:1 throw ratio. While that sounds impressive on paper, the relatively low brightness may restrict its ability to deliver optimal image quality in all settings—especially outdoors during daylight.

The Kodak Luma 500 uses DLP technology and delivers a native 1080p resolution. It measures approximately 5 x 5 x 1.3 inches (12.7 × 12.7 × 3.3 cm) and weighs around 1.2 pounds (544g), making it highly portable. A standout feature is the inclusion of Google TV 11, allowing users to stream content directly from platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+—no external streaming device required.

Connectivity-wise, it supports Wi-Fi and includes an HDMI port. When connected via HDMI, the projector achieves an input latency of 30ms at 60Hz, which is adequate for casual viewing and light gaming.

The Kodak Luma 500 is now available on Amazon with a retail price of $699.
